Creativity. Design. Inspiration.

Amy Lowell once said, "Art is the desire of a man to express himself, to record the reactions of his personality to the world he lives in." My art is the expression of my thoughts, my experiences, and the overall culmination of of my life up to this point. I have always been fascinated by design. The intricate lines on a piece of fabric, the graffiti frosted onto brick on the building around the corner, the globs of paint on Monet's 'Water Lilies', the magazine ad laying on the coffee table.

Communication Major. Business Administration Minor.

For a wile now graphic design has been my goal. I am studying Corporate Communications at the College of Charleston in the hope that I can someday soon work in graphic design. Ultimately I would like to work for an advertising agency. Until then, here is some of my work. [ Portfolio ]

Inspiration.

One Extra Pixel provides innovative design information. It is just the thing to stimulate creativity and is constantly providing me with inspiration for my work. They cover a vast amout of topics including graphic and web design and the examples of work they showcase are always something I find myself working to immitate.

Smashing Magaxine is similar to One Extra Pixel in that it is a comprehensive website about design. However, Smashing Magazine also includes design principles in its articles. For example, this article about proximity in car air conditioning units. Who would have thought it could relate to design?

It's always helpful to understand
basic design principles as well. As someone once said, "Once you know the rules, that's when you can begin to break them." Designers can't push the boundaries of their art until they understand the basic principles including balance, rythm, and unity.

Blogs can also be a great way to get inspiration from other designers, pick up on the latest trends, or even showcase your own talent.
Vandelay Design is a great blog to follow. It's goal is to help businesses and professionals have a stronger online presence, and it's articles are a great source of information and inspiration.
